Annie Hess is the 2022 WeTHRIVE!℠ Champion for Leadership and Initiative.
Annie has been a member of the WeTHRIVE! in Reading team for years. She is very passionate about her community and wants it to be a safe, healthy place for everyone.
Annie is always thinking about how to make Reading better. She observes other communities and figures out how to bring initiatives to her city. She goes outside of the box and leads the way with new, refreshing ideas.
Started new gardening club in Reading
In 2022, Annie started a group called GrowingCommunity, which started out as a gardening club but has become a movement in its own right within the Reading community. The group meets monthly at different locations and showcases the wonderful people and places of Reading.
Active member of WeTHRIVE! team
Annie has led or assisted with many WeTHRIVE! in Reading initiatives, including the Reading Farmers Market. Her spirit is infectious and she is described by her nominators as impressive and passionate.

Response to Champion Award
When asked what the WeTHRIVE! Champion Award means to her, Annie says:
“It is an honor to be recognized when there are so many great things happening around Hamilton County! I am grateful to the many enthusiastic members of Reading’s WeTHRIVE! team who are willing to help make an idea become a reality for our community. I am continually amazed by their hard work and love for our city. This is the first time I’ve been a part of a group that when a meeting is over, people are willing to stick around and continue the conversation. I’m looking forward to more of this energy in 2023!”
