Steve Crase is the new WeTHRIVE! neighborhood navigator for Arlington Heights. Currently serving as village mayor, he has been involved with WeTHRIVE! since 2014. Steve is a WeTHRIVE! ambassador and was recognized as a WeTHRIVE! Community Champion in 2017.
As neighborhood navigator, Steve wants to re-energize the WeTHRIVE! initiative in Arlington Heights by educating residents and getting them more involved. “We need to get that community spirit going again,” he said. “With just 12 streets in the village, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t all know each other.”
Plans include launching a “walker watch” program to encourage frequent walkers to keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Steve also wants to put benches and mileage markers on a one-mile loop through the village, creating a walking trail that he says was the dream of Kevin Kaiser, former village administrator. “Hopefully we can get people out walking around and engaging with other residents,” he said.
Steve is a lifelong resident of Arlington Heights. He served on the village fire department for 21 years (including two years as chief) and village council for four years before taking over as mayor in 2017. He is also treasurer and board member for Lockland Church of the Nazarene. Steve lives with his wife Shanon and son Scott in the house where he grew up.
Arlington Heights has been a WeTHRIVE! community since 2014. The village’s WeTHRIVE! team is focusing on the chronic disease and emergency preparedness pathways.
