Sable Bender is a 2026 WeTHRIVE! champion!

“Honestly, it [champion award] was a surprise. I don’t feel like I’m doing anything award-worthy. I’m just showing up for my community and trying to do what I can to make it a little bit better. I appreciate that it was noticed… If anything, I hope it helps to make people realize how many resources there are available to improve your community and help others.” –Sable Bender

Sable joined the Cheviot WeTHRIVE! team this year with a lot of excitement to give back to her community. Her dedication to the team was apparent from the get-go. Immediately, she began to build off the team’s current action plan, providing her expertise about native plants and connections throughout the community.

Sable also applied for, and the team was awarded, a mini grant to build and install Little Free Pantry boxes in Cheviot. Her work to plan and implement this project will ensure that everyone in the community has access to healthy food.

Sable extends her helping hand to other community groups on the west side as well. She is always looking for new and innovative ways to help support and strengthen the health, safety, and vitality of the community.

“If I had to describe Sable in one word, it would be zealous,” says Mary Ellen Mallory, WeTHRIVE! population health specialist who works with Cheviot. “Her enthusiasm for new ideas and her community makes her a WeTHRIVE! champion who is helping her team build a healthier and safer Cheviot!”
