Lockland is a long-time WeTHRIVE! community, so we know about all the positive things going on there. But April’s Rock the Block event showed just how much this village THRIVES!
Rock the Block is a neighborhood clean-up day organized by Habitat for Humanity of Greater Cincinnati. The Lockland event included 17 homes selected for exterior repair and maintenance and five other community projects. By day’s end, 372 volunteers had cleaned up 50 blocks in the village. (See below for some amazing stats about the day!)
Melinda Campbell feels “very grateful and blessed” for the work volunteers completed on her Lockland home. “They painted my front porch and the railing that goes up my steps, and they put some reinforcement pieces of wood on the parts that weren’t as sturdy,” Melinda explained.
In addition to fixing up the front porch, spray washing the siding, and doing yard work (Melinda and her daughter helped), workers also painted the front door. “My house is green and the front door was bright red,” Melinda said. “It didn’t go at all, so I was very happy to have it painted black to match my windows. It looks a lot nicer.”
When rain interrupted the painting, volunteers returned another day. “It was really nice that they were able to reschedule and come back to help me finish that up,” she said.
Melinda appreciates the volunteers who descended on her home. “It took a lot of time out of all of their days and it was very nice of them to come and do that,” she said.
“Habitat for Humanity does a lot of nice things for people that I never even knew about,” Melinda added. “I would for sure participate as a volunteer in the future. It’s very nice to give back.”
