Looking at Lockland with Joyce Campbell

This story is part of our THRIVING for 10 Years series celebrating our 10th anniversary. We’re grateful to long-time Lockland WeTHRIVE! team member Joyce Campbell for sharing her thoughts about her ten years with WeTHRIVE!

It has been my privilege to have participated in WeTHRIVE! since the beginning ten years ago. This is an honor to celebrate the achievements and successes that have been accomplished.

We started out with the three communities of Lockland, Lincoln Heights, and Woodlawn. Our meetings were held at the Woodlawn Community Center under the direction of Hamilton County Public Health. Now there are many WeTHRIVE! communities throughout Hamilton County.

In Lockland, we support the three initiatives of: healthy eating, proper exercise and cessation of tobacco use. Caring for our body and practicing good health habits can contribute to a better and happier life.

Through WeTHRIVE!, improvements have been made in offering healthy choices for school lunches, making the school stadium a smoke-free facility, and installing more playground and exercise equipment in the parks.

WeTHRIVE! is such a help to the community through the participation of the citizens and organizations being put forth to make it a more healthy and safe place to live.

I appreciate what I learned in becoming a WeTHRIVE! Ambassador and from the Strategic Alliance for Health conference I attended in Chicago. I enjoy the meetings we have and consider it an honor to be a part of this group.

I look forward to good days in the future as we work together for the well-being of the residents of our community through promoting healthy practices.
