Reduce Waste

According to Reduce.org, when we avoid making garbage in the first place, we don't have to worry about disposing of waste or recycling it later. Changing our habits is the key — think about ways to reduce waste each time we shop, work, and play. Here are some resources to help reduce waste, save time and money, and be good to the Earth at the same time:

  • Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) is responsible for ensuring that the County achieves State required goals for recycling and waste reduction. Waste reduction programs are targeted to residentscommunitiesbusinesses, and schools. Visit the District’s website for additional information.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s website offers lots of tips on how to reduce, reuse, and recycle everyday items to save money, energy, resources, and protect the environment.

  • Backyard Composting

Composting is a great way to recycle yard trimmings and provide a free source of compost. This handout from the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) provides tips for beginning composters. Learn more about backyard composting and upcoming training seminars on the District’s website

  • Get Involved

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful educates and encourages people to take a larger role for improving their environment. Click here for a list of upcoming clean up events, or visit the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful website for more information.

Be a champion for recycling. Visit the America Recycles Day website to learn more about hosting or joining an event and to take the recycling pledge.
