Lockland girls get their chance to dance with Princesses Ballet

In a community like Lockland, where 47% of children live in poverty and 86% of students qualify for free and reduced school lunch, ballet lessons are a luxury most cannot afford. But Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church (RLPC) and City Gospel Mission are letting little girls dream about becoming ballerinas through the Princesses Ballet program.

On Monday afternoons, a group of 6th-8th graders gathers in the basement of Reading-Lockland Presbyterian Church (RLPC). Forest Park firefighters teach safe sleep to prevent infant deaths

When the Forest Park Fire Department responded to four infant sleeping deaths over a three-month span, all in the same apartment complex, Captain Tom Jackson felt that something had to be done. “The department has always done a lot of education about smoke detectors and in the schools,” said Jackson. “These things make a difference, so I thought, why not make a difference with something as important as babies sleeping safely?”
